Sailing clothing

A long established sailing clothing brand, Musto is now a world famous name associated with quality wear. The company takes its name from Keith Musto who was himself a very talented and successful sailor. With achievements such as a winning the Flying Dutchman nationals, silver medal in the Olympics, and being appointed the Olympic team coach for the Japanese sailing team in 1976. Only a sailor can truly understand clothing. It will be tested in some of the most extreme conditions, and be worn to perform without hindrance to the sportsman.

Keith Musto was therefore in a prime position to design his own, innovative range for the sport. In 1987 the brand really expanded, adding equestrian and shooting ranges. the results achieved by sportsmen wearing Musto clothing is true testament to their quality; sailing medals in various event including Team New Zealand's victory in the America's cup, and Ellen MacArthur.

Today the sailors clothing range is not only designed for those who need sporting clothing but incorporates casual lines in all ranges. The availability of such an array make the brand ideal for those who enjoy country-living. The choice, when coupled with the quality of the items, mean that Musto is a hard brand to match for all your country clothing needs. The styles associated with such an established company are maintained while now using pioneering fabrics:

GORE-TEX®. This fabric achieves its properties of being waterproof yet breathable due to the high density of holes (pores) in the fabric (9 million per square inch), allowing the water vapour of perspiration to be removed from the skin but keeping the water outside the garment outside and unable to pass through.

Technical tweeds combine cheviot with Worsted wools in a high twist fibre material which also incorporates nylon. This, combined with the Teflon® finish, makes for a water repellent, durable fabric which is both windproof and breathable.

Polartec® is a particularly warm, soft fabric whilst also being lightweight, making it ideal for outdoor sport and casual wear. When teamed with a waterproof finish, water simply beads off.

These materials are not only excellent quality, but also practical. Made to last, they are extremely durable and also machine washable. Musto also uses the 3 layer system, showing their understanding of what is needed to keep the wearer warm and dry. The combination of a base layer to wick moisture away from the skin, middle, insulating layer to keep the warm air in but allow flow of water vapour out, and, finally, an outer layer which is both waterproof and breathable to consolidate the effect.

The Musto quality also extends to their sailing footwear. Again the GORE-TEX® material is featured as a liner. The equilibrium in pressures between the inside of the yachtsmans deck shoes, where it is a high pressure surrounding around the foot, and the outside environment where there is low pressure, mean that water vapour is forced out, allowing the foot to breath inside the warm, waterproof item.
